Florida State College

  • Located at Cecil Commerce Center®, Florida State College's Aviation Center of Excellence consists of 17,000 square feet of classrooms and computer labs. Courses offered at this facility include Air Traffic Controller Training, Professional Pilot, Aviation Operations and Aviation Maintenance Management. The center has classroom facilities to accommodate general education as well as a hangar to provide for the aviation technicians programs. The center offers courses that may be applied toward a two-year college degree or prepare students for certification as an airframe and power plant technician. Click here for more information.

     
  • The first 44,000-square-foot phase of Florida State College's new 130-acre Westside Center is complete. Construction of the future phases are scheduled to be phased over time. Courses offered include general education (English, Math, History, Psychology, etc.), business (Management, Accounting, Computers), child care and adult education. Click here for more information.

  • The Westside Center also offers a commercial truck driving program, which Florida State College hopes will meet the needs of those companies experiencing growth due to the increase in cargo traffic at JAXPORT, and eventually, Cecil Commerce Center®. Construction of a new state of the art truck driving facility is underway at their Cecil North Campus.

     
  • Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Cecil Campus) and Florida State College's Aviation Center of Excellence are excellent aviation-related education centers that incorporate the most up-to-date technology in their respective course offerings.
     

Recreation

  • The City of Jacksonville acquired more than 4,000 acres of the northern portion of Cecil Commerce Center® for recreational use. Portions of this area are being master planned to include passive forms of recreation such as hiking and horseback riding trails, camping, hunting and fishing. This area is a small portion of a larger natural wildlife preservation corridor connecting Jennings State Forest, in Clay County with Cary State Forest, north of Cecil Commerce Center®.

     
  • Approximately 900 acres are designated for the Cecil Recreation Complex. This active recreational area includes several tournament level playing fields and sports complexes, playgrounds, open play field areas, a community center, a park maintenance facility and the Jacksonville Equestrian Center.
