Redevelopment Initiatives

JEDC logoRedevelopment of Downtown and Northwest Jacksonville is a high priority for the city and is critical to creating a seamless community. Local, state and federal tools are used to achieve the city's community-driven redevelopment goals. The state of Florida's Community Redevelopment Area program and Brownfields program are two commonly used tools by the JEDC that encourage private investment in underutilized areas.

The JEDC also focuses on the recruitment of employers that will create higher-wage jobs and the establishment of public/private development partnerships to encourage private investment and expand the tax base. Successful redevelopment efforts are often catalysts for other private investment and development that does not require public investment.
