The Summer Camp Program strives to reduce summer learning loss and helps to prepare children for the next school year. Summer camps generally include a wide variety of programming and hands-on S.T.E.A.M. learning activities, in addition to experiential trips and guest speakers.

The Jacksonville Children's Commission (JCC) works with a large group of non-profit providers, to provide summer camp opportunities for low-income and special needs children in Duval County.

Participant Eligibility

To be eligible for camp participation all children must be:

  • Residents of Duval County (only)
  • Five* to 15 years of age
However, all camps do not serve all age ranges—parents should contact the camps individually to inquire.
*Children must be five years old by Sept. 1, 2014 AND entering kindergarten this fall. 

AND either:

Special Needs/Special Education

  • IEP from school with current date (school year)
  • A current diagnosis report from Nemours or other medical/psychological evaluation verifying the child would require an IEP if enrolled in public schools
  • McKay Scholarship letter or form with child’s name and current date  


  • National School Lunch Program
  • Report card showing attendance at a school participating in the Community Eligibility Option (CEO)
  • Income based free/reduced lunch- qualifying letter from child's school.
  • Verification that household family income does not exceed 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. A current copy of Heroes or Step up for Students scholarship letter
  • Documentation of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), 2-4 recent pay stubs, WIC card, Medicaid, etc.
Parents must provide copies of documentation to the camp upon registration. 

Camp Registration

Registration for all camps will be conducted by each individual location.  Parents/caregivers interested in enrolling their child in camp this summer should contact the camps directly to learn more about how and when to register their child. The Children’s Commission does not have this information or facilitate this process.

Hours & Days of Operation

Camps will be provided by various youth-serving non-profit organizations in five to eight week-long sessions, operating Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  However, Super Academy sites will operate from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Camps will run between June 9th and August 8th, but specific dates may vary for specific locations.

Parent Fees

The total amount a camp can charge a parent for registration fees, enrollment fees, parent fees, weekly fees and any other types of fees, regardless of the name (excluding experience trips or extended day) cannot exceed $10 per week for the duration of the summer camp contract. This fee may be less than $10 per week, but may not be more.
