Letter from Mayor Alvin Brown
City of Jacksonville, Florida

Mayor Alvin BrownGreetings, and thank you for visiting our new Jobs For Vets website.

First, let me thank all service members and veterans visiting this page for their dedication to protecting our great nation. As mayor, I see incredible importance in continuing Jacksonville’s longstanding investment of time, resources and energy toward the common goal of building America’s most military-friendly city.

Nearly one in four of our residents claims a direct relationship to the military as a service member, veteran or dependent of either. I appreciate the cultural value that factor provides toward Jacksonville’s identity and global importance.

Jobs are a top priority for my administration and I appreciate the unique opportunity Jacksonville has to serve as a bridge between the military and major employers. I believe the military teaches a refined skill set and a sense of self-worth and discipline that should provide a significant edge in the job market.

This website grows in partnership with the Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition (JMVC) to facilitate a more meaningful understanding of the capabilities our brave men and women may be able to offer, because of their military background, in civilian life.

You will find links to educational opportunities, Jacksonville career fairs, internships and other pertinent information to assist military members in their transition to civilian life. For employers, there is a special section titled “Employer Assistance/Military 101” where we aim to take the mystery out of hiring a vet by explaining common military terminology, rank structure, and other useful information about military-proven skills.

Please, visit this site often. I wish you success in transitioning into civilian life with a successful career. To employers, I salute you for taking the time to learn more about how hiring a hero could build your business.

Alvin Brown
