Mayor Curry Proclaims May 2017 to be Older Americans Month in Jacksonville!
Each May, the City of Jacksonville Senior Services Division celebrates Older Americans Month as part of a national month of recognition. The City of Jacksonville Senior Services Division will use Older Americans Month 2017 to focus on how older adults in our community are redefining aging—through work or family interests, by taking charge of their health and staying independent for as long as possible, and through their community and advocacy efforts. We can also use this opportunity to learn how we can best support and learn from our community’s older members. Events are planned throughout the month, and a full schedule of events can be found below. We hope you'll join us in our celebration!
Governor Rick Scott Proclaims May 2017 to be Older Americans Month in Florida!
The State of Florida boasts approximately 20 million seniors over 60, nearly 23% of the population. Seniors in Florida are a valuable resource for the State of Florida, working longer to contribute to economic success or volunteering to improve the quality of life for those in their communities. For this reason, agencies across the State of Florida will join in the Older Americans Month celebration by recognizing the impact seniors have on their communities through successful aging.
