State Representative Dwayne Taylor presented a briefing at the Police and Fire Pension Fund Office on Tuesday, March 1, regarding proposed changes in the Florida Retirement System contained in Senate Bill 1130 filed by Senator Ring. In addition, changes in Chapters 175 and 185 impacting the Jacksonville Police and Fire Pension Fund and all other Police and Fire Pension Funds contained in Senate Bill 1128, that were also filed by Senator Ring, were thoroughly reviewed and discussed. The proposed changes to the Florida Retirement System are outlined in the attached document for your reference. Attending the important educational briefing were Assistant Chief Bobby Deal, Police Trustee and Pension Fund Board Chair; Executive Director - Administrator John Keane and Deputy Executive Director Dick Cohee of the Police and Fire Pension Fund; Officer Mark Muchowicz representing President Nelson Cuba of FOP Lodge 5-30; President Randy Wyse of the Jacksonville Association of Fire Fighters; and former Council President Henry Cook and former Council President Eric Smith also attended, both active Members of the Retired Employees Assoc. Various views were expressed concerning Constitutional and Statutory provisions contained in the proposed legislation which is "fast tracked" according to Tallahassee sources. Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa later this week. The Florida Legislature is scheduled to begin the 2011 session on March 8, 2011.
