As the City of Jacksonville continues to grow and roadways become more congested, anxious drivers begin to seek alternate routes, which may involve low-volume neighborhood streets.  Traffic calming involves specific measures utilized to address excessive speeds and increased traffic volumes in residential neighborhood areas.  These techniques are carefully planned to redirect traffic to more efficient thoroughfares and restore a sense of livability and safety to neighborhood streets that have become commuter short cuts.

The Traffic Calming Manual contains information about specific traffic calming measures and details how to request a traffic calming study for your neighborhood.
