Office of Grants Management and Compliance-Offender Based Programs
The Office of Offender Based Programs (OBP) is a grant funded program within the Office of Grants Management and Compliance. The office provides staff that supports three anti-crime initiatives serving Jacksonville's at-risk youth. The OBP programs involved in youth crime prevention include:
- The Developing Adults With Necessary Skills (DAWN) program provides GED, life skills and vocational preparation classes necessary to assist sentenced 18-23 year old males successfully reintegrate into society when released from detention. This program is made possible through a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
- The Jacksonville Youthbuild Program is uniquely designed from any other Youthbuild program because of its inmate population. Youthbuild provides GED instruction, leadership development, job readiness and job placement. On-site counseling, life skills, behavior management and construction skills are also available for participants (males age 16-24). Other requirements for participation are:
- Must possess sixth grade reading level
- Motivated to succeed
- A desire to learn
This program is made possible through a Department of Labor grant.
