The mission of Ability Housing is to provide quality affordable community based housing with an emphasis on adults with disabilities.

Formerly known as Grove House of Jacksonville, Ability Housing is a unique non-profit dedicated to meeting the housing needs of adults with disabilities wishing to live within the community as independent adults.

Ability Housing does not limit its housing opportunities to adults with disabilities. Due to the need for affordable housing throughout the community Ability Housing provides quality housing affordable to a myriad of households throughout Northeast Florida.

Ability Housing has two dynamic programs providing affordable housing designed specifically to meet the community inclusive housing needs of adults with disabilities.

CASA
Everyone would like to have a home that is convenient, affordable, safe and attractive. That is why Ability Housing named its award-winning affordable housing program CASA. Through CASA we rent single family homes to 2 or 3 adults with disabilities wishing to live as roommates. Each home is...

Convenient - located close to shopping, transportation and employment opportunities

Affordable - rents are based upon each resident's ability to pay. Since our residents' incomes are so low, the rents do not cover the costs of the homes

Safe - in stable neighborhoods of the resident's choosing

Attractive - we call it the 'Wow Factor'; Ability Housing staff have to say 'Wow, I'd like to live here myself' for a home to be selected for the CASA program

Villages
Besides single family homes, the Ability Housing Villages Program is developing apartment communities which are designed to address the rental needs of the community. Some units will be set aside for adults with disabilities with rents affordable to their restricted incomes. Other units will be for families and households in need of quality affordable housing in the community. The goal of each Villages community will be to foster the dignity, independence and inclusion of each resident. Residents in the Villages homes must earn 60% or less of the area median income as defined by HUD. Rental assistance may be available to qualifying individuals and families.

Over 45 leading organizations, providers and advocates of housing and services to Florida's special needs populations have come together as the Florida Supportive Housing Coalition. The Coalition is committed to creating long-term, independent housing solutions for people with special needs in Florida ---particularly the homeless, developmentally disabled, mentally ill, and elderly, youth exiting the foster care system and persons living with HIV/AIDS. The Florida Supportive Housing Coalition is dedicated to advocating for public policy and governmental structures that encourage self-sufficiency, housing choice, and community-based opportunities for people with special needs in Florida. In its short history, The Florida Supportive Housing Coalition has placed great emphasis on coalition building. In part a 'coalition of coalitions,' it has seven Partner Organizations that share common goals and are working together to achieve them. It has also brought together supportive housing advocates, consumers of supportive housing and organizations serving different populations who confront the same supportive housing challenges.
