Mayor's Disability Council
The Mayor's Disability Council was created in 1989. Special care was taken to make certain that a cross section of disabilities would be represented. Approximately 80 percent of the 13 members appointed by the mayor have disabilities. Some are visually impaired, blind, deaf, mobility impaired, while some have hidden disabilities, or are parents of children with disabilities. These council members volunteer their time and expertise to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. This council works hand in hand with the Disabled Services Office.

Mission Statement
The purposes of the Jacksonville Mayor's Disability Council (hereafter MDC) are to provide a public forum for persons, groups and businesses to present their disability problems, concerns and successes, and to acknowledge work done well. The MDC shall be responsible for timely reports of same to the Jacksonville mayor.

The Mayor's Disability Council meets every first Tuesday of the month from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room, 4th Floor, City Hall. Requests for accomodations should be made to the Office of Disabled Servicies 2-3 business days prior to the meeting. The public is encouraged to attend. Please contact the office prior to the day of the meeting to confirm time and location as changes do occur from time to time.
Meeting Dates
The following dates are the Mayor’s Disability Council scheduled meetings
for the 2012 year. The MDC will continue to meet on the first Tuesday of
each month in the Mayor’s Office with the exception of those months noted
with an asterisk (*). During these two months the MDC will meet on the
second Tuesday of the month, due to holiday scheduling conflicts. All of the
scheduled MDC meetings are held at 3:00 and will run no longer than 5:00,
with the exception of the January MDC Retreat which will be held at
Bethesda Park from 11:30- 2:30.
