Dispute Over Dog Ends in Murder

JACKSONVILLE, FL (September 3, 2013) - On Sunday, September 1, 2013, the Jacksonvlle Sheriff's Office began investigating a murder at the Cedars of Baymeadows Apartments located at 9801 Old Baymeadows Rd.

Patrol officers responding to the area regarding to assist the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department with a man who was cut and bleeding found the victim, Joseph Micah Primo, who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

One of the responding officers observed a subject that appeared to match the description of the suspect leaving the apartment complex in a Gator City Taxi Cab. The suspect, Tyehimba Yazid Fort, was detained and interviewed by homicide detectives.

During the initial interview the suspect admitted to being in a fight with the victim but denied stabbing him. In a subsequent interview the suspect admitted to leaving the apartment with the knife that he used to cut the victim multiple times. Investigators were able to determine that the initial confrontation began over a dog.
