The JSO Police Explorer Program educates and involves youth in police operations and develops their interest in the law enforcement profession. The JSO Police Explorer Program is a part of the Florida Sheriff's Explorer Association state wide program. The Police Explorers train on a regular basis and then compete in regional and statewide competitions to test their skills against other Police Explorers.

The Police Explorers are trained on the Police Explorers
following:

• Building Search
• Crime Scene Investigation
• Crisis Intervention
• Domestic Violence
• Dispatch/Radio Procedures
• Physical Agility Test (P.A.T.)
• Pistol Usage and Safety
• Traffic Stops (Unknown Risk)
• Traffic Crash Investigation
 

The Explorers, Post #948, meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Police Memorial Building, 501 E. Bay Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

Membership is open to young adults ages 14 through 21. Along with parental approval and a general liability release form, explorers are expected to maintain a minimum scholastic standard of 2.0 GPA.

All new candidates must attend the 40 hour Explorer Academy, held in the spring.

At present there are more than 30 young adults taking advantage of the Explorer Program.
