Hearing Impaired Assistance
Emergency Services
Members of the hearing impaired community can access 911 using a TTY phone system. TTY phones have special tones that the receiving units in the JSO Communications Center translate into text. All JSO dispatchers are trained to assist customers who use TTY equipment. Notice Under the Americans With Disabilities Act
Assistance 'Out in the Field'
The JSO uses DEAF LINK to assist the deaf and hearing impaired community. If a deaf or hearing impaired citizen stops a police officer to report a crime or have a conversation, and cannot communicate, the citizen can be brought to the nearest substation (or to the Police Memorial Building or the Pre Trial Detention Facility.) Deaf Link allows immediate communication with a sign language interpreter through the computer. (24 hours a day, seven days a week)
