The International Affairs Unit (IAU) seeks to reduce crime in the non-English speaking community by educating residents about crime prevention. Members of the IAU routinely attend community functions and work with the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board to build relationships with the residents to develop open lines of communication. Members of the unit also initiate contact with non-English speaking residents by visiting apartment complexes and neighborhoods to discuss crime prevention methods.
The IAU also serves as a liaison between the Sheriff's Office and the non-English speaking community. The primary function of the unit is to address crimes that affect those residents who may be reluctant to otherwise report them.
More information about the International Affairs Unit can be found on pages 62-64 of the 2015 Patrol and Enforcement Departmental Report.
