January 15, 2008

The DUI Enforcement Unit will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint.
Location: 1700 Monument Road
Date and Time: 10 p.m. Sat 01-19-08 to 2 a.m. Sun. 01/20/2008

Justification of Sobriety Checkpoint
The Sobriety Checkpoint has been organized by the DUI Enforcement Unit. This department, by its mission, is committed to protection and safety. This being the primary function of this agency, it is achieved foremost through public education and enforcement. It is the policy of this department to ensure that everyone using the highway and roadway system may do so securely, free from any harm or personal danger, and to provide a deterrent for those who violate the laws contained in the State Statutes. Enforcement is a tool to facilitate the achievement of this safety. Reducing the death and injury associated with impaired drivers is one of the most important objectives of this agency. The roadway is provided as a benefit to the public at large. Accordingly, this agency seeks to safeguard all drivers through the use of non-intrusive checkpoints to detect and remove impaired drivers from the roadways.
The intent of a Comprehensive Roadside Safety Checkpoint (CRSC) is to increase the motorists perceived risk of detection and arrest and to affect a greater public awareness to the problem, which is targeted by the checkpoint.
