Reservists Celebrate at Annual Event
JACKSONVILLE, FL (December 5, 2017) - On Sunday, December 3, 2017, JSO Reserve Officers gathered for the unit’s annual holiday party and to honor two of their own.
Reserve Officers are members of the community who volunteer their time to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. These individuals receive training similar to full-time officers and work alongside them in every aspect of the Sheriff’s Office operations. Currently there are 88 members in the unit and collectively they have volunteered 34,500 hours of service so far this year.
At Sunday's event Reservist Richard Bradford, who recently retired from his duties, was recognized for dedicating 43 years of service to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office as a volunteer. Throughout the years Bradford was recognized by the agency with numerous accolades including: "Reserve Officer of the Year" in 2000; JSO's "Reserve Officer of the Month" awards on numerous occasions and many a "Certificate of Commendation".
A few years ago the Reserve Unit began presenting an award at their annual event appropriately named after Bradford. The award was first presented in 2014, and is considered a prestigious honor among Reservists. It is presented each year to his fellow comrades that respresents a degree of competency, leadership and exemplify the Sheriff's Office Core Values. This award is voted on by the Reserve Lieutenants and the Reserve Captain each year.
The 2017 Richard Bradford award was presented Sunday to Reserve Sergeant Don Butler for his hard work and devotion to this community (photo above). Butler was recently recognized by the agency as JSO's August 2017 "Reserve Officer of the Month".
