Mathews Bridge Closure

JACKSONVILLE, FL (January 26, 2012) – Events scheduled in the downtown area on Saturday, January 28, 2012 will coincide with the Mathews Bridge closure, also scheduled for the weekend.

The Wolfson Children’s Hospital’s “Run 5 to Keep Kids Alive” event starts at 2 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing. The race route will affect traffic on the Acosta Bridge and the Main Street Bridge until approximately 3:45 p.m. If you are leaving the Arlington area attempting to travel north during the event please use the Hart Bridge or the Dames Point Bridge.

The Mathews Bridge is scheduled to be completely closed in both directions from Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office wants to make sure drivers know to use alternate routes when entering or leaving downtown.

Other events occurring downtown this weekend that may be impacted by the bridge’s closures (Jan. 27 – Jan. 29) include:

  • MOCA Jacksonville - Exhibit Grand Opening from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28;
  • Times-Union Center for Performing Arts – Elvis Lives! from 6:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28;
  • Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center – Jacksonville 2012 Boat Show from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28;
  • Jacksonville Fairgrounds - Pilot Club of Jacksonville’s Antique Show from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.
