Municipal Ordinance

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office administers the application and issuance of alarm registration decals as required by the City of Jacksonville Municipal Code. Click here for Municipal Ordinance section 168.102 which explains the requirements. The required fee is $10.

Alarm Applications

Application for registration of a residential alarm, business alarm, or commercial installer/monitoring operation shall be submitted to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office:

The application for alarm registration may also be obtained in person by visiting the Sheriff's Office main location or any of the Zone Substations in your area during regular business hours, excluding weekends and holidays.

Alarm Contractors

In addition to any requirements established within the City of Jacksonville Municipal Code (Section 168), all alarm contractors must also comply with Section 342. False Alarm Citation Payments

False Alarm Citation Invoices issued by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office can now be paid online. In order to make a payment log on to: https://jsoalarmcitationpayment.coj.net/Home.aspx

Payments must be made with a credit card and will be processed though Official Payments Corporation. Official Payments Corporation will collect a small processing fee for each payment. The processing fee is not paid to the City of Jacksonville.

Payments will be credited to your account the next business day after payment is received.
 
False Alarm Citation Invoices issued by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office can also be made at the Duval County Tax Collectors Office located at 231 E. Forsyth Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. All payments made at the Duval County Tax Collectors Office must be made in cash or checks.

False Alarm Prevention
  • Become Familiar with your alarm system and your password.
  • Cancel false alarms immediately through your alarm company.
  • Before arming your system, make sure that all doors and windows are closed properly.
  • Make sure that all motion sensor areas are clear of any moving items. Displays, reflective materials, banners, fans, and family pets can cause false alarms.
  • Everyone with access to your property should be familiar with your system and have a password.
  • Report any problems that you are experiencing with your alarm system to your alarm company immediately. FAULTY EQUIPMENT = POLICE DISPATCH
  • Periodically call your alarm company to make sure that your emergency contact list is accurate and up to date.

Why am I required to register my alarm system?

Alarm Ordinance 168.102
Sec. 168.102 Registration required; fees.
(a) It shall be unlawful for a property owner, lessee of property or any other person otherwise occupying a premise within the city to operate or maintain an alarm system on his premises without a registration decal issued for such alarm system by the Office of the Sheriff. The decal shall be valid for so long as the decal holder continues to operate and maintain such registered alarm system on his premises, unless revoked as provided for in this chapter. The person requesting such decal shall file an application with the Office of the Sheriff along with a registration fee of ten dollars. The application shall contain the information required by the Office of the Sheriff, as the Sheriff deems necessary and proper to effectively administer the provisions of this chapter.
 

How do I register my alarm system?
Complete the Alarm Registration Application for your business or residence. It can be mailed along with the $10 registration fee to:

The application can also be taken with the $10 registration fee to any local Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Substation.


What if my alarm is activated accidentally?
A total of six false alarm violations are allowed with no penalty. Each false alarm in excess of six will result in a $25 fine until the start of the new calendar year. Our invoices are mailed out at the beginning of each month.
 

Can I pay my alarm invoice by credit card over the phone?
Not at this time. Customers that would like the convenience of paying by credit card can do so by going to https://jsoalarmcitationpayment.coj.net/Home.aspx Payments must be made with a credit card and will be processed though Official Payments Corporation. Official Payments Corporation will collect a small processing fee for each payment. The processing fee is not paid to the City of Jacksonville.

I was issued a Notice of Alarm violation, but I found evidence of a crime. What should I do?
Call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at (904) 630-2399. Inform the dispatcher that you received a Notice of Alarm Violation, but you discovered that a crime occurred. Provide the dispatcher with the CCR# located in the upper right corner of the violation.
