Our Work & Guiding Principles for Jacksonville's Children
The Jacksonville Children’s Commission works with local nonprofit organizations to improve the health and lives of Duval County’s children. The Commission monitors its programs for effectiveness and outcomes. The JCC focuses on prevention, early intervention, and support programs for families and children 0 – 18. The organization’s four guiding principles are: Children grow and develop during out-of-school time; Children have stable, nurturing families
; Children enter kindergarten prepared to learn;
and Children get special help when needed
. These proven programs reduce future costs related to special education, foster care, juvenile justice and youth incarceration.

Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) has launched the Parent Academy, aimed at promoting parental involvement and enhancing student achievement.
Academy classes will be offered in schools, libraries, community centers, government offices, and faith-based institutions. The Parent Academy will focus on three primary tracks: Student Achievement, Parenting and Advocacy, and Personal and Individual Growth.
