Quality Time Makes the Season Sweeter

The holidays bring with them images of family gatherings, brightly wrapped packages and warm memories. With all of the cooking, shopping and holiday parties on top of your
normal caregiving responsibilities, your schedule can quickly feel overwhelming.

The important thing to remember is that quality time spent with your loved ones is what makes the holidays special.

This season, focus on the little things that make this time of the year so sweet, and remember that YOU are the best gift you can give your loved ones.

Enjoy the holidays, and this issue of Caregiver Connections!

We are planning some exciting things for next year and would love to hear what kind of stories you want to see in future issues. E-mail us your feedback and ideas at
newsletter@mycaregiverconnection.org.

From all of us at the Caregiver Coalition, we wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Restore Hope For The Upcoming Season

The holiday season can be challenging if you have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. The pressure to get into the holiday spirit often wrestles with the need to grieve.

It makes no difference whether the death took place last week or several months ago. A loss can be felt more acutely at this time.

Community Hospice of Northeast Florida invites you to attend "Hope for the Holidays." Created for families, friends" and caregivers who have experienced the death of a loved one, this workshop will help attendees reflect on their loss, cope with grief reactions and restore a sense of hope for the upcoming season.

"Hope for the Holidays" workshops are available at no charge and open to the public.

Holiday Traveling Just Got Easier

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has a new toll-free helpline number, 855.787.2227, to provide information for passengers with disabilities and medical conditions and their families before they fly.

They recommend calling 72 hours in advance to learn what to expect at security checkpoints. The TSA will also be able to coordinate your security screening ahead of time when they know about your disability. Enjoy your flight!

AARP Releases Voters' Guide

In an effort to get voters information on candidates' plans for Social Security, Medicare and financial security, AARP has released a voters' guide for Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional candidates.

Entitled "You've Earned a Say: Vote for Retirement Security," the 2012 Voters' Guides feature information in the candidates' own words. Available online, the 2012 guides can be found at earnedasay.org.

Voters who visit the website can enter their address to see responses not only from the presidential candidates, but also from general election candidates in their specific races for seats in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Visitors to the site also will be able to contact the presidential campaigns with their comments or questions.
