Medtronic has broken ground on an expansion in Jacksonville’s Southside, a move expected to create 175 new jobs with an average salary of $80,000.

“This development is a major step in making Jacksonville synonymous with longer, healthier lives,” said Mayor Alvin Brown. “And as this vital part of our economic machinery is at work, may the rest of the nation and beyond take notice: Jacksonville is open for business.”
Medtronic already has 600 employees in Jacksonville, part of a hearty life sciences sector already employing one-fifth of the workforce, according to a
2011 University of North Florida Study.
