Thousands of people headed out into chilly temperatures to raise money for breast cancer research during the weekend’s 26.2 with Donna events. Mayor Alvin Brown welcomed walkers and runners at the five-kilometer, half-marathon and full-marathon events. Billed as
The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer, the event has drawn competitors and cancer survivors from 50 states and 20 countries worldwide.
The mayor also was one of more than 200 people from city government to take part in
Mayor Brown’s Challenge at Saturday’s five-kilometer event. The race started and ended at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center with a loop through Downtown Jacksonville that led along the Northbank Riverwalk.
Mayor Brown’s Challenge is a commitment from city employees to get more exercise and lead a healthier lifestyle. The mayor partnered with event-founder
Donna Deegan to rally the Mayor Brown’s Challenge team.
