The Jacksonville Giants support Mayor's Mentors

Posted on Wednesday, February 1, 2012
The Jacksonville Giants have made a commitment to the city’s youth by supporting Mayor Alvin Brown’s Mayor’s Mentors program. The team donated 450 home game tickets as a thank you to program participants in honor of National Mentoring Month in January.
"The Jacksonville Giants are truly invested in the City of Jacksonville and the education of its youths,” said team Owner Ron Sholes, P.A. “Last year, our team contributed over 2000 hours to private and public school partnerships. This year, we have already exceeded that number. We are proud to be a part of Mayor Brown's Mayor's Mentors initiative and are committed to its success."

Mayor’s Mentors is an initiative to pair highly qualified adults with young people who could use a little guidance to keep on their studies and determine their best path through life. The program launched in December and quickly began gaining in popularity.

As of the end of January, 26 businesses and civic organizations have had or have committed to holding rallies to build the mentoring ranks. Also, 648 people have signed up to be mentors.
