Community Empowerment Expo

Community Empowerment ExpoThe second annual Community Empowerment Expo (CEE) took place Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at the Downtown Main Library, 303 N. Laura St.

CEE offers tangible resources and result-producing workshops to people who live below, at or just above the poverty line. This program was carefully designed to bring businesses and non-profits together to provide real help to individuals seeking to improve their economic situation.

Expo Features

  • Workshops
Throughout the event, workshops focused on key econonic improvement areas including credit repair, career building, operating on a limited budget, building wealth, housing/foreclosure and more. Each workshop offered a tangible resource component. There was a takeaway from each workshop that attendees can truly use to improve their quality of life. For example, a career building workshop would not only discuss the importance of a resume, but each person participating will leave with a completed resume. Similar takeaways will be provided for each workshop.
  • Resource Expo
The resource expo contained exhibits from more than 50 partnering agencies, businesses, organizations and groups. Each had a table displaying information about their respective organizations. In keeping with the focus of the event, each partner provided a program and/or service for attendees that is actionable in order for them to participate in the expo. A banking institution may offer a no-fee checking account to everyone who signs up and attends a banking workshop offered following the event.
