Mayor Alvin Brown’s reform plan was introduced to City Council on Nov. 8 and approved Dec. 13, 2011. The mayor signed the bill into ordinance on Dec. 22. The plan aims to streamline city operations, boost efficiency of services and create a government that is more responsive and accessible for Jacksonville’s citizens. The plan will make changes to departmental structure, realigning the government’s role in areas such as economic development, education and military affairs. An office of public-private partnership was created to leverage greater value from tax dollars by cultivating new funding sources. Reform is about reshaping the way City Hall does business to ensure that government is well-positioned to serve Jacksonville’s citizens. On March 27, 2012 Mayor Alvin Brown appeared with leading members of the Jacksonville business community to unveil legislation aimed at reforming the city’s economic development structure and policy to help create jobs and revitalize Downtown.
