This constitutional office is responsible for protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Jacksonville. It prevents crime and preserves the peace while at the same time ensuring all personal liberties are respected and preserved.

From traffic enforcement to homicide investigations, JSO also serves as the custodian of all those incarcerated in the county. Officers assist at-risk youths, and offer many intervention and prevention programs for people of all ages.

Once a suspect is arrested or convicted, the Sheriff’s Office operates the counties three corrections facilities, whether suspects are awaiting trial or sentenced to jail time. In addition to its many educational programs, the Sheriff’s Office also prepares inmates to assimilate lawfully into society following incarceration or when returning to Jacksonville from the state prison system.
