Environmental and Compliance

 

This department works to pursue a clean, safe and healthy community. It works with businesses, citizen groups and government to achieve these goals. It also works to encourage civic pride through a clean and well maintained city. 
 
 
There are six divisions in the Environmental and Compliance Department:
  • Office of the Director – Operates the division and administers the city’s Office of Sustainability Initiatives. 
  • Animal Care and Protective Services – Enforces city code dealing with domestic and companion animals. 
  • Municipal Code Compliance – Enforces the city’s municipal code, relative to property/housing safety and maintenance issues, in addition to the local zoning code. 
  • Environmental Quality – Monitors and regulates air and water quality in the city. 
  • Mosquito Control – Suppresses the mosquito population to prevent the spread of disease. 
  • Public Parking – Responsible for parking enforcement, vehicle registration and inspections of all city-owned vehicles. 
 
2011 Budget:
The total budget, which includes General Fund, Special Revenue Funds and Enterprise Funds for the Environmental and Compliance Department is $47,728,246.
The General Fund – GSD budget is $17,932,245.  
 
During the fiscal year 2011 budget process, the Environmental and Compliance Department eliminated the following: 
  • The Mosquito Control Division eliminated a Pawnee fixed-wing aircraft and sold a 1966 helicopter used for mosquito control.  
  • Animal Care and Protective Services cut three vacant positions. 
  • Municipal Code Compliance decreased operational expenses by $174,914 through reduction in ITD data center services and banking fund costs. 
 
2010 Budget:
The total budget, which included General Fund, Special Revenue Funds and Enterprise Funds for the Environmental and Compliance Department was $45,450,194.
The General Fund - GSD budget was $18,357,170.
