Public Works

 

The Public Works Department maintains and enhances Jacksonville’s infrastructure.  It has six divisions:
 
2011 Budget:
The total budget, which includes the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, Special Revenue Funds, and Capital Project Funds, for the Public Works Department is $333,554,444.
The General Fund - GSD budget is $79,769,323. 
 
During the fiscal year 2011 budget process, the Department of Public Works:
  • Reduced mowing frequency for right of way and parks, excluding ball fields 
  • Reduced tree and stump removal and maintenance 
  • Eliminated travel and outside training 
  • Eliminated 6 percent of all cell phones 
  • Reduced overall cell phone costs by 35 percent
  • Reduced miscellaneous services and charges by 49 percent, which helped offset increases in utility and electrical charges. 
 
2010 Budget:
The total budget, which included the General Fund, Enterprise Funds, Special Revenue Funds, and Capital Project Funds for the Public Works Department was $302,647,926.
 
The General Fund - GSD budget was $79,638,300.
