April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

March 28, 2017
The movement to end sexual violence in northeast Florida took center stage in Downtown Jacksonville as Mayor Lenny Curry and representatives from the City of Jacksonville, law enforcement, the State Attorney’s office, Jacksonville University, the Women's Center of Jacksonville’s Rape Recovery Team, and other advocates kicked-off Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

A Community Speak Out event, coordinated by the Mayor’s Sexual Assault Advisory Council (SAAC) and the Sexual Assault Interagency Council (SAIC), took place at 10 a.m. in the atrium of City Hall. The event raised public awareness about sexual violence and educated the public on how to prevent sexual violence in their communities.
