City of Jacksonville Earns National Award for Proficiency of Budget Presentation

June 08, 2018
The City of Jacksonville continues to earn recognition for its strong fiscal presentation and management by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The GFOA has awarded the City with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2017 fiscal year, for the commitment of the governing body and staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
“Earning the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award demonstrates our consistency in ensuring fiscal accountability and transparency in our business practices,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “Since my administration began almost three years ago, we’ve maintained our focus on making the best budgetary decisions for taxpayers.”

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes state and local governments for preparing high-quality budget documents that reflect both the nationally recognized guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting, as well as the GFOA's best practices on budgeting. The guidelines assess factors including how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. The City of Jacksonville received “proficient” ratings in all four categories, and in the criteria within these categories, to earn the award.

More than 1,600 government entities participate in the annual GFOA Budget Awards program. The program is open to submissions from any type of government at either the state or local levels. Submissions are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting.
