The style guide was developed to educate and increase employees’ understanding of the standards for communication — such as proper logo and branding use — to ensure consistency and uniformity of the City’s brand and values. The judges noted the guide’s breadth of topics and engaging illustrations with comments including: “Great job on creating a helpful manual for your staff to reference. Highlights were the visual examples of how to use the logo appropriately. This was a very comprehensive guide to communications.”
 
“The Communications Style Guide is one of several tools contributing to the culture of transparency and collaboration encouraged by my administration,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “I am proud of the innovation and leadership from our Public Affairs Office. They are producing exemplary work for our city.”
 
The Savvy Awards has a 30-year history of recognizing outstanding local government achievements in communications, marketing, engagement and creativity. First, second and third place prizes are presented in 16 categories with 31 subcategories. Submissions for the Printed Publications category were judged on overall originality, quality of content, design and production, and budget. The guide’s nomination was both the first award submission and win for the Public Affairs Office under the Curry administration.
 
“We are honored to receive this award,” said Director of Public Affairs Marsha Oliver. “Each day we seek to identify ways to improve our work and services. It’s humbling to be honored for doing just that.”
