Mayor to Walk Blocks with JEA Officials to Examine Neighborhood Conditions

February 11, 2016
Mayor Lenny Curry and City Councilwoman Katrina Brown (District 8) will join city and JEA officials this afternoon for a review and examination of conditions in a northwest neighborhood. The area, which includes homes in the 32209 ZIP code, is among those with recent crime activity. Mike Brost (JEA Vice President/General Manager Electric Systems) and John Pappas (City of Jacksonville Director of Public Works), will identify street lighting needs, overgrown trees and shrubs, blight conditions, and other challenges that may foster criminal activity in neighborhoods.

Since taking office, improving public safety has remained one of Mayor Curry’s top priorities. City officials and partner organizations are collaborating to identify and address areas of concern throughout the city to help improve local communities, restore neighborhood pride and promote public safety.

This evening, Mayor Curry will kick-off the first meeting in his latest series of Community Conversations addressing public safety  –  Our Future: Addressing Youth Violence in our Community  –  to engage citizens and leaders who share his commitment in a discussion on how to create brighter futures for youth. The mayor will be available to share reaction and outcomes from today’s neighborhood walk before the Community Conversation.
