Victory for Florida Firefighters in Battle Against Cancer

Today, State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis was joined by Mayor Lenny Curry, members of the Florida Legislature, and members of the Jacksonville fire service community to announce the passage of legislation that provides cancer benefits to Florida’s firefighters. The legislation passed unanimously by the Florida Legislature this year and was officially signed into law by Governor DeSantis on Friday, May 3, 2019.
Patronis said, "I am incredibly proud that our state is ensuring that firefighters get the benefits they both need and deserve as they battle cancer. These men and women protect our communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year... Firefighters sign up for the job because they want to serve, even if it comes at the sacrifice of their own health. Now they will know that our state has their backs."
