MAYOR URGES RESIDENTS TO CONTINUE TO HEED WARNINGS
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 11, 2017 – In an effort to keep citizens safe and emphasize the potential dangers in flood waters, the mayor is strongly encouraging Jacksonville residents and visitors to observe safety warnings and guidelines:
Flood Dangers:

Jacksonville is currently under a Flash Flood Warning.

With water levels continuing to rise along the St. Johns River from Downtown Jacksonville to the Buckman Bridge, the mandatory evacuation ordered on Friday, Sept. 8, for zones A and B, low-lying/coastal areas, and mobile and manufactured homes remains.

If you discover flooding in your home, stay inside. Go up, not out.

Do not wade through or play in standing water.

Avoid contact with flood waters. Those with open cuts or sores face greater impact for infection. Basic hygiene is critical.

Avoid eating or drinking anything that has been contaminated with flood waters.

Generators should be kept outdoors, in a well-ventilated area, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you come across a downed powerline, stay away and report to the 630-CITY team.
Food Safety:
-
In most circumstances, food is safe as long as power is out for no more than four hours.

If your residence has lost power, keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible.

Never taste food to determine its safety. You can’t rely on appearance or odor to determine whether food is safe.

Discard any perishable food (such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers) that has been above 40 degrees F for more than two hours.

Always discard any items in the refrigerator that have come into contact with raw meat juices.

Storm Updates:

The Legends Center has reached capacity. Eleven shelters are available.

City offices will be closed Monday, Sep. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12.

A mandatory evacuation order, issued on Friday, remains for residents living in Zones A and B (approximately 264,000 citizens affected; Zone A – 192,000, Zone B – 72,000), mobile homes and low-lying/coastal areas.

Duval County remains in a State of Emergency.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is continuing its 24-hour staffing levels implemented to track and monitor storm conditions and their impact on Jacksonville.

630-CITY is operating 24 hours a day while the Emergency Operations Center is fully activated.

There will be no waste collection services Monday; schedules will shift by a day.

Access to the JAX airport terminal is closed to general public until operations can safely resume. The airport is not a designated evacuation shelter; a list of authorized facilities is being shared through our social media channels, City website and local media stations. Passengers should contact their airline, not the airport, for rebooking and any other flight status information.
