School is almost out for thousands of students throughout Jacksonville. With a goal to stay healthy and physically active during the summer months, local students at Holiday Hill Elementary are pledging to continue a school tradition while on vacation – The Morning Mile! Each morning throughout the school year, Holiday Hill students, school administrators, faculty and parents, walk (or run) a mile around the school’s track to begin their day.

Demonstrating his commitment to Jacksonville’s Journey to ONE health initiative, Mayor Lenny Curry will join Holiday Hill students on their final Morning Mile this year. Mayor Curry seeks to inspire and encourage Jacksonville’s youngest citizens to stay active while on summer vacation.

The Morning Mile is a national program aimed at improving the health and wellness of children by increasing their physical activity and decreasing childhood obesity. The program is a before-school walking/running activity that provides children the opportunity to start each day in an active way, while enjoying fun, music and friends.
