Garrett Dennis is a native of Jacksonville, Florida.  He is a graduate of Jean Ribault High School, Class of 1992.  Garrett attended Florida A&M University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree.  He later earned his Masters of Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida.

Garrett worked for Duval County Public Schools from 1997-2001 as a science and math teacher.  In 2001, he joined the Supervisor of Elections Office as an Educational Specialist and was later promoted to Director of Community Outreach.  During his tenure at the Elections Office, Garrett was responsible for training more than 10,000 poll workers and registered over 55,000 students.

On March 24, 2015, Garrett was elected to his first term to the Jacksonville City Council to represent the constituents of District 9.  Subsequently, on March 19, 2019, Garrett was reelected to his second term to continue representing the great residents of his district. During his time on the council, he has served as Chair of the Finance and Rules Committee, as well as a member of the Neighborhood Community Services and Public Health and Safety Committee.  

Garrett has been a strong voice for the community and will continue to speak loudly for the betterment of all.  He has spearheaded several projects in his district and has worked to bring businesses back into the area.  Garrett’s work over the next four years will be to improve infrastructure, restore the community by eliminating blight and improving parks.

In addition to his role as a city council member, Garrett manages a local construction company.  Garrett is married with two children.
