Jacksonville, FL – District 7 Council Member Reggie Gaffney will hold a press conference in the vacant lot today at 2:00 PM located near the Gold Rush Inn off Harts Road where Jacksonville’s latest killing took place.

The Gold Rush Inn has been a hotspot of crime and violence for years. However, in December 2020 many community leaders, Jacksonville residents, JSO along with several city council members, including Council Member Gaffney urged for change resulting in the closure of the Gold Rush Inn and the creation of Jacksonville’s Public Nuisance Abatement Board.

“Last night’s killing was senseless” said Gaffney, it awakens a fear many of my constituents and myself prayed would never happen again. I will be reaching out to the Public Nuisance Abatement Board for the City of Jacksonville to begin the process to stop these senseless killings.” continued Gaffney.

JACKSONVILLE, FL. - Public hearing for bill 2022-464 regarding the reestablishment of Adult Arcade Amusement Center will NOT be held at the upcoming city council meeting on 6/28/22.

Due to the changes to the Zoning Code, there are additional public hearings required by state law. This bill is also sent to Planning Commission and then to LUZ so the timing of the hearings are different than a regular non-LUZ bill. The Council public hearings on this item are July 26 and August 9.

This is your opportunity to have your voice heard on this issue.

Jacksonville, FL – Council Member Reggie Gaffney is commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Juneteenth bill he sponsored. This bill adds a holiday, June 19 (Juneteenth), to the list of dates the City observes as legal holidays.

Juneteenth, which is short for June 19th, commemorates the day when Union General Gordon Granger commanding the Headquarters District of Texas, issued General Order 3 informing the people of Texas that all enslaved people were now free.

This important milestone was a critical juncture in the fight for African American freedom, and the first of many important social justice achievements in the United States.

As someone who cares daily for marginalized individuals in the community, Council Member Gaffney felt the personal need to ensure Juneteenth was observed by the City of Jacksonville, honoring that occasion.
