JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Following an announcement that JEA would resume disconnection of services on July 7, 2020, Council Member Dennis will hold a noticed meeting Tuesday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss options to assist customers at risk of disconnection.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a discussion at the Special City Council Meeting and a plea for unity, City Council members and other elected local and state representatives will have a Solidarity Walk on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. The walk will begin on the steps of City Hall, 117 West Duval Street, and end at the Jacksonville Fire Rescue – Station 1, 611 North Liberty St., Jacksonville, FL  32202.

Elected Officials from members of the Jacksonville City Council and State of Florida Representatives, will host a press conference, to share a unified statement regarding the “Caravan for Justice” Protest. Unfortunately, unexpected violence took place, after a peaceful protest on Saturday, May 30th in downtown Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tonight the Jacksonville City Council unanimously passed bill 2020-0243 introduced by Councilman Garrett Dennis.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Following a discussion at the City Council meeting, Bill 2020-0117 passed unanimously.
 
This bill increases the amount of homestead exemption for low income persons 65 and over from $25,000 to $50,000. The Property Appraiser’s Office estimates that the additional $25,000 exemption would apply to 2,476 senior-owned properties.

On Wednesday, November 13th, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the Jacksonville City Council Chamber (City Hall, 117 W. Duval Street), Jacksonville native, former alcohol and drug addict, and inspirational writer Richard Preston will be interviewed about his experiences in addiction, rehabilitation, and as an inspirational writer by City Council Member Al Ferraro (District 2).  The interview with the author of Serenity Granted and Absence of Serenity will be available for viewing on Comcast and U-verse channel 99, on the Jacksonville City Council’s live streaming web site (http://www.coj.net/city-council/city-council-meetings-online.aspx) and will be recorded for inclusion in an oral history archive.

The Jacksonville City Council announces a series of fact-finding workshops on the JEA, beginning on Wednesday, November 6th and continuing twice monthly through May 2020. The City Council will meet in the Lynwood Roberts Room on the first floor of City Hall at 11:00 a.m. on the Monday of City Council meeting weeks (weeks of the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month) to perform an intensive review of the history and current condition of the JEA, its relationship to the Consolidated City of Jacksonville, and various factors relating to a potential recapitalization, privatization or reorganization of the utility. Council Member Michael Boylan (District 6) will chair the workshop process. The public is welcome to attend and observe the workshops.
