City Council Meeting Date Changed to Monday, September 9, 2002.

August 28, 2002

City Council President Jerry Holland announced today that the next meeting of the Jacksonville City Council has been changed from Tuesday, September 10th to Monday, September 9th, 2002. The September meeting was rescheduled in order for the City Council members, staff, and those having business with the Council to participate fully in '9.11 COMMEMORATION: A Coming Together of Greater Jacksonville.' President Holland is a featured speaker at the free event scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Metropolitan Park. The members of the City Council will be honored guests at the program, which is expected to conclude at 9:00 p.m.

In introducing the City Council Ordinance 2002-743-E that called for the meeting date change at the August 13, 2002 Council meeting, President Holland noted the special significance of the event for all citizens: 'It is important that we all truly come together as a community in honor and respect for our country.'

The commemoration will include many musical performances, a United States Navy Flyover, several outstanding civic, religious, and community speakers, a solemn candle lighting ceremony, and varied opportunities for citizens of all ages to participate in this time of remembrance and honor. 'I am pleased that the City of Jacksonville can be part of this community based effort to bring us together at this important time,' said Holland.
