PRESS RELEASE REGARDING LATE FILED PETITIONS (Hurricane Frances)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Duval County Value Adjustment Board is empowered to review Taxpayer appeals from property assessments and other determinations by the Duval County Property Appraiser. The statutory deadline for filing appeals of 2004 property valuations (assessments) was 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2004.

The Value Adjustment Board has, however, determined that the damage and difficulties inflicted on Taxpayers by Hurricane Frances has certainly prevented the orderly and timely filing of valuation petitions. As a result, the Board will accept late filed petitions through 5:00 PM today (Wednesday, September 8, 2004) with 'no questions asked' concerning the reason for the late filing.

The Board will consider petitions filed after 5:00 PM today on a case by case basis. The Board will review each petition filed after 5:00 PM today (Wednesday, September 8, 2004) as to whether the taxpayer has demonstrated good cause justifying consideration of the petition and whether the delay in filing will be prejudicial to the performance of the Board's functions in the taxing process.

In addition to the above address, petitions to the Value Adjustment Board may be filed through 5:00 PM today at:

231 East Forsyth Street, Room 334
Jacksonville, Florida 32202
