The month of March (actually in the form of Monday, February 29, thanks to the 2016 Leap Year) immediately began with a revival of an old fire service tradition, the 'baptism' and blessing of a new ladder truck. More specifically, Fire Station 44 and Mayor Curry welcomed newly acquired Ladder 44 into the JFRD arsenal of apparatus with a blessing provided by Rev. Greg Fay of San Jose Catholic Church. Subsequently, after the sprinkling of holy water onto the apparatus and as tradition mandates, the assembled firefighters along with Mayor Curry pushed the 42-foot-long Pierce Enforcer ladder truck back into the bay: the vehicle now ready and 'blessed' to provide the citizens throughout the Baymeadows corridor, and beyond, with a successful tenure of exceptional public safety service.
