An official observance ceremony to publicly honor the courage and sacrifice of the U.S. Armed Forces Men & Women who served in the Vietnam War, both living and deceased, and their families, including personnel who were POW or listed as MIA will take place on March 29, 2024, at the main U.S. Flagpole assembly area at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.  Weather permitting, there will be a flyover by a squadron of retired Veterans who are aviators.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is commemorated every March 29 as an official observance to publicly honor the courage and sacrifice of the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces, who service in the Vietnam War.  They sacrificed, as did their families and caregivers, including personnel who were prisoners-of-war or listed as missing-in-action.  More than 58,000 Americans were killed, over 300,000 more were wounded and injured, and more than 1,500 service members are still missing-in-action ("MIAs" but not forgotten and our Nation's efforts to bring them home will never stop).  On Friday, 29 March 2024 our Northeast Florida Community will have ceremonies, a flyover, and laying of wreaths for those soldiers, marines, sailors, airmen, coast guard and merchant marine members who served, and their families, especially The Gold Star families whose loved ones gave their lives in the line-of-duty.

March 29 was officially designated by Congress in 2017 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.  It is reported that more than 2.7 million American men and women served in the Republic of Vietnam.  This day is marked by ceremonies across the entire U.S.  The Jacksonville National Cemetary Staff will participate during 2024 along with various members of the armed forces, junior reserve officer training corps and sea cadets, veterans' organizations, especially the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1080 of Raiford, Florida who helped organize this March 29 ceremony in Jacksonville, governmental agencies, and a multitude of civic organizations, individuals, schools, and companies.  It is reported that there are approximately 1.4 million military veterans residing in Florida (1.2 million male and 0.2 million female).  Our Sunshine State is the home to over 460,000 Vietnam-era armed forces veterans, making it one of the larger populations of Vietnam War Veterans in the nation.  Also, Jacksonville is the home of The National POW-MIA Memorial & Museum at the former Naval Air Station Cecil Field Master Jet Base (currently known as the Cecil Commerce Center, and Cecil Air & Space Port).

Plan to arrive by 0830 hours.  Ceremony commences promptly at 0900 hours.
