University of Georgia and University of Florida Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The City of Jacksonville Sports & Entertainment Office is pleased to announce the inductees into the City of Jacksonville’s 2012 Georgia/Florida Hall of Fame. The 2012 inductees include David Greene and Charles Whittemore from the University of Georgia (UGA) and Doug Dickey and John L. Williams from the University of Florida (UF).
 
These inductees will be recognized at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Oct. 26, 2012 during the festivities surrounding the long-standing football rivalry between the UGA and UF. The ceremony celebrates the talents of the players and the inductees are showcased in the Hall of Fame, located in Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, designed to give fans an opportunity to view the exhibit and pay tribute to these talented athletes.
 
2012 University of Georgia Inductees:
David Greene – Quarterback, 2001 - 2004
  • In 2004, Greene had 214 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.  Until 2009, he was the winningest QB in NCAA Division 1 history with 42 wins.  He is the all-time SEC career leader in yards gained with 11,270.

Charles Whittemore – Split-End, 1968 – 1970 and Coach, 1978 - 1990
  • Whittemore was a three-year starter as a split end.  He led the Bulldogs in receiving for three years and was elected permanent offensive captain at the end of his senior year.
  • Whittemore coached for 13 seasons at UGA, assisting Coach Dooley for most of these seasons.
 
2012 University of Florida Inductees:
Doug Dickey – Quarterback, 1951 – 1953 and Coach, 1970 - 1978
  • In 1953 versus UGA, he deflected Zeke Bratkowski’s pass in the end zone from safety position.  He passed for a 22-yard TD and scored on QB sneak in UF’s 21-7 win.
  • As the head coach at Florida, Dickey’s overall record was 58-43-2, and he led the Gators to 4 bowl appearances. 
 
John L. Williams – Fullback, 1982 - 1985
  • Williams had 2,409 rushing yards.  He had eight 100+ yard games during his collegiate career. He was inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame as a “Gator Great” in 1997 and a second-team All-SEC selection in 1984 and 1985.
