About Ortega Hills Park

Ortega Hills Park is located in the Ortega Hills section of southwest Jacksonville. Much larger neighbors surround the park: the Westside Regional Park to the north, Ringhaver Park to the west (across the Ortega River), and the U.S. Naval Station to the east. During World War I quartermaster troops were trained at the naval site, known then as Camp Joseph E. Johnston. The U. S. Naval Station was commissioned in 1940, and became one of the largest military air installations in the country during World War II. The park was shown on the 1954 plat of Ortega Hills Unit One (Plat Book 25 pg. 33) and dedicated to Duval County. The passive park exhibits a triangular, grassed area containing several pine trees, with no other amenities. Additional features:
