It’s back-to-school time in the Curry household. A lot changes when the school bell rings, signaling the start of a new year.
For kids it is earlier bed times, reduced TV time, and added homework. For adults, it means busier roadways, longer commutes, and school zone speeds. While driving, please be mindful of school buses and increased pedestrian traffic.
The City supports Duval County Public Schools' commitment to keeping our children safe. We also support their mission for quality education. That’s why I proposed the creation of the Kids Hope Alliance: The Jacksonville Partnership for Children, Youth & Families (KHA), consolidating the Jacksonville Children’s Commission and Jax Journey into one organization that serves “at-hope” youth. KHA will focus on early learning, juvenile justice, out-of-school programming, and pre-teen & teen programming in many of our most vulnerable areas.
Aug 2, 2017: Mayor Announces Reform to Better Serve Jacksonville Youth
Jacksonville should be celebrated as a family-friendly city where every kid, in every ZIP code, has the tools, resources, and opportunities to succeed. These reforms lead us closer to that goal.
I look forward to continuing to work with City Council, Duval County Public Schools, and all of our partners to improve the lives of youth throughout our city.
