My second office

June 27, 2017

At a recent ribbon cutting for the new YMCA at Baptist North, I joked about the gym being my second office. I was only half joking.

For as long as I can remember, exercise has been an important part of my life.

And while I love to enjoy things like hamburgers, pizza and craft beer (in moderation) as much as the next guy, I commit to daily habits that keep me healthy.

There are few days when you won’t find me at my neighborhood Y. It’s where I put in the hard work and commitment for a healthier me.

One of the best things individuals can do to promote better health is to commit to a daily exercise routine. That’s why encouraging movement and activity is such a big part of our Journey To ONE efforts, including our monthly Mayorthons and our joint effort with the Mayor’s Council on Fitness & Well-being and Duval County Medical Society to encourage healthy weight and lifestyles with a one million pound weight loss challenge – Mission One Million.

These efforts, combined with initiatives to improve community health help us reach our goal to move from 55th in Florida to 1st in quality health outcomes. We have a lot of work to do, but I am confident we have the resources and players to make it happen. See you at the office!
