Last week, Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans Department held its second annual Vetrepreneur Summit.
Over 100 area veterans attended to network, hear from panels of subject matter experts, and meet with other successful entrepreneurs.
It is inspiring to see so many veterans motivated and committed to investing in themselves and our city with business ownership.
I know there is tremendous value that a resource like this provides, especially to those who have served our country.
My father was a Vetrepreneur. After the Navy brought our family to Jacksonville, he and mom opened a television repair shop upon his retirement. I remember fondly the summers I worked in the shop.
His example inspired me to start my own business, which prior to my election as your mayor was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
This event, and many other programs, partnerships, and services offered by our Military Affairs & Veterans Department demonstrate our strong commitment to veterans of our city.
