Last July, when I took the oath of office for my second term, I committed to making our downtown the vibrant and amazing heart of our community that the people of Jacksonville deserve.
This is important because great cities have great downtowns. And as Florida’s largest city, by population and landmass, Jacksonville deserves and iconic urban core. Our downtown has been stagnant for decades, and we need to build on the momentum my administration has created over the last 5 years.

The Lot J Project will be a catalytic project that will ignite even more investment and opportunities for Downtown Jacksonville. It will provide an immediate boost to our economy with the creation of 2,300 construction jobs. After that there will be over 1,000 permanent jobs with an estimated annual economic output of $100 million per year.
I am grateful to Shad Khan, Mark Lamping, and the entire team for their commitment to our city and community. This is a major investment, a public-private partnership that demonstrates a long-term commitment to our community and its people.
Moving forward, I look forward to working with my colleagues on City Council to pass this legislation.
