Opportunity for Free, Rapid Testing Will Include Charter & Private Schools

In an effort to increase access to COVID-19 testing for local public, charter and private school students, the City of Jacksonville and Duval County Public Schools have partnered with Logistics Health to open a student express lane at four testing sites. Beginning Monday, Aug. 31, the express lanes will be operational Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Each location will have the capacity to perform 192 tests per day and normally provide results in two days.

“To ensure all of Duval County’s public, charter and private school students have the opportunity for COVID-19 testing when needed, my team and I are working with Logistics Health, our City sponsored COVID-19 test provider, to establish free and rapid tests for students at four different testing sites,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “With free, rapid testing readily available throughout our community, we can better assist Dr. Diana Greene and her outstanding staff in their continued commitment to keep students and faculty safe and healthy.”

“Our best defense against COVID-19 begins with keeping infected individuals home and not in schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene. “I want to remind families that while students are being tested, they need to stay home until they know their results. Having rapid testing and results will be a big help for students, families, and school staff, and the Mayor’s leadership on this initiative is tremendously beneficial for our schools.”

Any student in Duval County in need of testing must take a verification letter signed by his or her school’s administrator to the testing site (verification letters will be available at every school’s administration office) and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can provide consent for testing.
