City of Jacksonville, Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Hosts 8th Annual "America Recycles Day"

The City of Jacksonville and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful will join with several shredding companies for the eighth annual America Recycles Day in November.
The communitywide recycling collection event, a nationwide initiative by Keep America Beautiful, will be held at these locations and times on Wednesday, November 15:
  • Prime Osborn Convention Center, 1000 Water Street, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Parking lot of Bank of America, 301 3rd St. Neptune Beach, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Republic Services, UltraShred Technologies and  Shred It will join with KJB in the popular annual event.

Last year, 35,520 pounds of paper were collected and shredded, 150 pounds of cardboard and 200 pounds of school supplies were processed. 

This is the eighth consecutive year the event has been held. Republic will have a collection truck and staff  at the Prime Osborn Convention Center site and Ultrashred Technologies, Inc. and Shred It will have staff and equipment on hand at the Bank of America Neptune Beach site. Additionally, volunteers will be collecting gently worn shoes, blankets, coats and towels to benefit various local organizations.

At the Prime Osborn Convention Center, Republic Service staff and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful commissioners and volunteers will collect items.  At the Bank of America  location, staff from UltraShred and Shred-It, along with volunteers from New Age Hippy, will be on hand to collect items. Both sites will collect recycled materials for Teacher Supply Depot. Those materials can include office and school supplies, arts and crafts supplies.

IMPORTANT: This drop off event is for Jacksonville/Duval County residents only. Commercial/business recyclables will not be accepted. Other than cell phones and chargers, no electronic waste will be accepted at this event. Absolutely no liquids or household hazardous will be accepted at this event. Residents may take those items to the city's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2675 Commonwealth Ave. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The facility is closed on Sunday and Monday. For more information or to arrange for special handling of unusual material, call (904) 387-8847.

Keep America Beautiful’s America Recycles Day is celebrated each year in November. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States.  Keep Jacksonville Beautiful has been conducting America Recycling events since 2010.
